I reside in West Wales and have been wood turning since 1998.
I have enjoyed working with wood all my life but since school days the opportunity to follow this
pathway was not there- its one of those things that would happen one day! - and now has!
The design of each turned piece is influenced by and varies in relationship to the size and character of the wood in hand. Each plank of wood used can be very different from one end to the other, especially spalted woods, this helps to make each piece a unique item.
The wood I turn at present ranges from two to twenty plus inches wide and from one to eight inches in depth. I use a mixture of UK and foreign woods, all from certified sustainable sources and a variety of finishes for the wood dependent on the intended use.
Each piece is individually pyrographed on its base with details of the wood type. Some pieces when completed have distinct woodgrain patterns and are pyrographed on the face with a phrase or line from a poem when it seems to enhance the overall effect.
I hope that people buying and receiving my work get as much enjoyment from it as I have had in making it. My aim is to carry on enjoying and learning as much as I can about turning and the nature of different woods.
At present I am not selling work over the internet, this may happen, but meanwhile it is available from the outlets named on the links page. My work is on display at Colby Woodland Gardens Gallery Amroth, run by Pembrokeshire Craft Makers, open daily 11 ~ 5 from the beginning of April to the end of October.
